Father Paul writes............
I have been asked by the parish webmaster, AKA Father Brizz, to say a little bit about myself. Now, where do I begin? Probably best at the beginning, so here goes!

I'm very proud indeed to be able to describe myself as a "Pompey Lad" having been born just around the corner from Fratton Park on 2nd October 1965.

Whilst some other church ministers feel a need to hide who and what they are, I am very proud that Fr Brizz and I were joined in a Civil Partnership in April of 2006. I have three daughters from a previous marriage; they are all loved very much and gladly very supportive of us.

Previous to forming the Parish, I served as a Lay-Minister within the Church of England, and was involved in that ministry for over 15 years. I had known for a long time that my real vocation was to the ordained ministry, and I was selected for ordination into an independent jurisdiction, finding a real spiritual home in the ECCUK.

I come from the Anglo-Catholic tradition - what used to be called in the Church of England "High-Church" - but will always consider taking part in or leading any form or style of worship, and I love our worship at Holy Angels – especially when ‘bells and smells’ are involved!!.

I really look forward to welcoming everyone to our services - why not come along and see what we're about?

As well as being the Parish Priest, I am also very proud to serve as Chaplain to the southern area branch of the National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association, and to have been co-opted as a permanent trustee of Portsmouth Citizens Advice Bureau. More recently, Bishop Terry has appointed me as his Vicar-General. I hope to serve with the humility and dignity that the role demands.

I am also Provincial Grand Chaplain of the RAOB "The Buffs" in Gosport, and an active Freemason.

When I have a rare bit of spare time, I like to spend it with Brizz, along with the telly or a book, and several large Gins and tonic!

If you would like to know more, please feel free to ask - I don't bite!

Your Webmaster here, Fr Brizz. What can I say about me being honest and open...........
Well I was born In Portsmouth on 16th July 1972, the fifth and final child of Margaret and Basil. I attended Charles Dickens first and junior schools and broke family tradition and went to St Luke's C of E aided Comprehensive where I was active in running the Christian Union. After receiving a lot of bullying, but still doing well with my GCSE's I left school and moved to Southampton for a period of time but Portsmouth drew me back.

I had a long period away from the church as a whole due to being made to feel that I was wrong or aborhant, this I most certainly am not.

After losing my mother Easter Sunday 2004 I had a hard time accepting her passing but through meeting my partner, Paul, and regaining my faith, the pain I suffered due to the loss has eased. I have managed to find a church that is open and inclusive and also found my vocation; something I believe was always there but kept under a facade.

I spent a lot of time helping people in various ways but it never seemed to fit with what I was doing until Maundy Thursday 2006 when I was ordained to the diaconate. From that moment although it has been a tough road I have finally found my true self and I have never been as happy as that day and when I was Civil Partnered to Paul.

Our ministry has taken spreading Gods word back to basics we go out into the community as chaplains of our local ASDA and chaplains of The Old Vic pub, an exciting addition is that we have been asked to be chaplains to The Hovercraft museum in Lee-on-the-Solent.

As of the 7th November I was initiated as a Buff (RAOB) I was priviliged that I was nominated and initiated by Father Paul who is the Provincial Grand Chaplain. I enjoy a cognac and loveage or two and after 18 years addicted to the dreaded cigarettes Fr Paul and I have given up, see the news page for proof, we also received a mug each (good times).

I am sometimes known as a bit of a rottweiller - I detest injustice and prejudism and have a tendency to stick up for those who I feel cannot do so for themselves. On occasions this gets me in trouble, but I will never change where that is concerned! I was ordained to the priesthood on the 10th December 2006 along with two other ordinands and prayed my first Mass on 14th December which was a very spiritual occasion.

I am very happy that we have a home in the ECCUK.
What lays ahead nobody knows but with the strength of Our Lord inside us we will try our best to bring his word to all who wish to know him.

I was born in Portsmouth in 1970 and lived for the early part of my life in Gosport. The rest of my childhood I grew up within the leafy suburbs of Chichester, before embarking on a career that took me to Cheltenham and Gloucester. But a change in career and life took me back to university for four years to train as a teacher. Qualifying in 2002, I settled in Gosport. In October 2009, my partner, Rob, and I became Civil Partnered, celebrating our partnership with a Church Service, attended by my son, both our families and all our friends.

It is through meeting Fr Paul and Fr Brizz, in 2008, that we eventually started attending Sunday evening Mass. But it was (and still is) not all about the Mass that we still go; it is the community spirit that occurs before, during and after the service. Why not come and find out! You never know you might end up coming to another ‘Community Spirit’ night!

My stance on worship is varied, having experienced Methodist, URC, low and high Anglican, to the prayerful Scouts' Own. My passion is video and music and I like to mix the traditional with the modern, to create meditations. Whatever your stance, whether it is traditional hymns or something uplifting, for me, it doesn’t matter how you worship, just as long as you take some time to say ‘Hello God!’

My journey has really only just started… having been ordained to the priesthood on 1st October 2011. Yet, hope, faith, trust and values have given me the opportunity to work as the Chaplain to Bridgemary School and the community that it encompasses, alongside my post as a teacher.

I am looking forward to this journey ahead and hope that you will join us...
